Every year the Centro de Arte y Flamenco de Sevilla organizes the workshop "Curso International de Flamenco" in Cadiz, the most ancient city still standing in Western Europe.
After its success in the past years, CAFS offers again courses and activities designed to cover the expectations at each level of training, adapting specific methodologies that ensure the maximum performance and increased learning by our students.
VENUE
The courses take place in the Centro Municipal de Arte Flamenco "La Merced", located at "Plaza de la Merced, s/n.

GENERAL PROGRAM
On Saturday, july 10th , students and teachers will get together in one of the bars with the most authentic character of historical Cádiz. With this occasion, we'll be able to get to know each other and talk about the objectives of each course.
On Sunday, july 11th , we welcome our students with a ceremony at the Centro Municipal de Arte Flamenco "La Merced" with a performance from singer Esperanza Fernández, dancer Miguel Vargas and other invited artists.
The courses begin on Monday, july 12th. There will be a repetition class for dance course 1, run by an assistant teacher.
On july 16th , we will celebrate the outcome with a closing ceremony of the IV Curso Internacional de Flamenco Cádiz 2010. Students will recieve their certificates from the Centro de Arte y Flamenco de Sevilla of the workshop they have completed, in the meantime we will have a delicious cocktail and enjoy the beauty of summer in Cadiz.

Esperanza Fernández - Singing
Esperanza Fernandez is without a doubt, one of the principal voices of flamenco. In her long established career, Esperanza has brought her Cante to cities like New York, Rome, Paris, Brasilia, etc. She has performed with artists such as Paco de Lucia, Camarón, Enrique Morente, Yehudi Menuhin, Jean Marc Padovani, Noa, Myrian Makeba and Rafael Frühbeck of Burgos, among others.

Miguel Vargas - Dance
His dance is pure charisma, pure energy, passion, intensity, personality, technique and pure instinct. Despite of his youth, Miguel has proven in 20 years of teaching that he is acclaimed worldwide. His productions have travelled throughout countries like Norway, Japan, U.S.A, France, Greece, Italy, Dubai... among many others.

Javier Katumba - Percussion and Claping
Javier Katumba has worked with artists like Jose Luis Figueroa "El Barrio", Arrebato, Jose Merce, Montse Cortes, Niña Pastori, Manolo Carrasco and David Palomar, among others.Currently he works with the singer David de María presenting the new album "Relojes de Arena" and he participates in the productions Trimilenaria of David Palomar, India Martinez and Miguel Saez..

Keko Baldomero - Guitar
Since its first performance, with 13 years, he shared stage with many artists such as David Palomar, the Junco, the Mistela, Rosario Toledo, Javier Latorre, Chano Lobato, Sergio Monroy, Dani Navarro, Mariana Cornejo, among others. With 21, he made his first solo concert. Since 2005 he is on tour with the band of musicians from José Mercé.

COURSE 1: Choreography of “Guajira y Colombiana” with fan, emphasis on "bailarle al cante" (dance to the singing), as well as learning how to create a dance maintaining a balance between cante and escobilla.
COURSE 2: Learn, improvise and interpret the various styles of lyrics of the “Caña” in order to create a choreography.

An Andalusian city with a wealth of attractive vistas and well-preserved historical landmarks.
Among the many landmarks of historical and scenic interest in Cadiz, there are unusual cathedrals, a magnificent theatre, an attractive old municipal building, an eighteenth-century watchtower, a vestige of the ancient city wall, an ancient Roman theatre, and electrical pylons of an eye-catching modern design carrying cables across the Bay of Cadiz. The old town is characterised by its narrow winding alleys connecting into magnificent plazas, bordered from the sea by the city walls.

Cadiz is also the home to Spain's most beautiful beaches. The city has 7,220 meters of wonderful white sand.
During the night-outs, you will have the opportunity to visit "La Venta Vargas," where Camarón de la Isla began his career, and go through some of the most important peñas in Cadiz, as the Peña de El Mellizo Enrique and Peña La Perla de Cadiz.
